Happy New League Year! Free Agency has begun and we’ve seen some major movement already. As NFL teams look to build their rosters and better their chances at a Super Bowl, we as fantasy football enthusiasts can’t help but wonder what moves will help us win a Fantasy championship. Some teams might make a move that sends ripple effects through their team and some might make moves that frees up a player we’ve been wanting to see more of. This list will point out some of the people that clearly “won and lost “ this period of the off-season for Fantasy purposes. See something you don’t agree with and you want to let us know about it? Fantasy Winners
Denver Broncos Pass Catchers
The Broncos made the first major move of the off-season by trading for Seahawks QB Russell Wilson. Wilson adds a stable QB that these pass catchers haven’t had yet. Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton have understandably shot up draft boards and trade blocks everywhere. Both of these players are incredibly talented and have shown major flashes of brilliance so bringing in Mr. Unlimited himself Russell Wilson can finally tap into the potential of Sutton and Jeudy.
James Conner
James Conner finally gets a backfield to himself after Edmonds bolted for Miami . The Cardinals can still go out and draft a running back but after signing Conner to a 3 year 21 million dollar deal with Arizona they have shown that they are more than content with having Conner be their guy. After Conner finished 2021 as PPRs RB5 he’s back on the radar to be another top option at running back.
Derek Carr
Derek Carr finished in the top 5 in passing yards last season and as fantasy’s QB13 and now gets the NFL’s top receiver in Davante Adams to throw to. With the weapons of Josh Jacobs, Darren Waller, Hunter Renfrow and Adams, Carr has the cast around him to be a nice starting QB for your fantasy team that will likely cost closer to nothing. I know the offensive line still has work to do but the upside of Carr and this Raiders offense is growing by the day.
CeeDee Lamb
Lamb should be viewed as a locked and loaded top WR for Fantasy Football purposes after the Cowboys shipped out Cooper to the Browns and Lost Cedrick Wilson to the Dolphins. The third year wide out was already a top WR in the game and should now see a huge bump up in targets. CeeDee has a chance to really breakout this season and become the player we’ve seen flashes of.
Honorable Mention: Rondale Moore, Cedrick Wilson, Elijah Mitchell, Donovan Peoples- Jones, Zach Wilson
Fantasy Losers:
Aaron Rodgers
It’s kind of hard to label someone a loser when they sign a contract paying them 50 million a year but here we are. The Packers never added wide receiver depth over the last couple years and now it's coming back to bite them. With Green Bay trading away Adams it leaves Green Bay with Allen Lazard and Amari Rodgers as its teams Top options (at the time of writing this article). That’s not going to cut it. Rodgers is a great QB but he’s getting older and definitely needs a top receiver to help him out.
Trevor Lawrence
If I told you the Jaguars spent 60 million dollars of guaranteed money on 3 pass catchers you would have thought they signed one of Chris Godwin or Allen Robinson or even Juju Smith-Schuster. No, they went out and signed Christian Kirk, Zay Jones and Evan Engram. Trevor Lawrence can still have a great sophomore season but with the Jags throwing tons of money to the wrong players he’s going to have to tap into that Star Potential sooner rather than later. I get going out and getting weapons for your young Quarterback but Trent Baalke really outdid himself with these contracts.
Dawson Knox
Knox had a great season last year and really did a nice job of being a reliable option for Josh Allen. A popular breakout pick Knox had everything lined up for him, that of course, ended when the Bills signed former Bucs TE OJ Howard. A big, athletic tight end will take away snaps and production for Knox. This situation is great for Josh Allen but for fantasy purposes it's one to stay away from.
Honorable Mention: Antonio Gibson, The Carolina Panthers, Chase Claypool
