College Football is off to a hot and exciting start as we've seen top 25 blowouts and upsets of the year trickle in already. Let’s keep it rolling and look ahead at some Week 3 matchups that we like; including some picks.
Friday 9/16
Air Force @ Wyoming (+14.5 O/U 47)
The early game between FSU and Louisville will definitely be a more exciting matchup. However, I personally think it is too cloudy to make a pick. Definitely sit back and enjoy Malik Cunningham taking on the hot start Seminoles. Air Force at Wyoming is one that I will be keeping a close eye on. Wyoming seems to be off to a great start after being decimated by the transfer portal, but they haven’t faced a team like the Falcons. Air Force comes into this matchup leading the nation in rushing averaging a massive 508.5 yards a game. Granted, the triple option is essentially their whole offense, but they are not fun to play against. They dominate the TOP and carry a convincing defense. They are 2-0 ATS this year and I think they keep it going at Wyoming who lets up 162 yards on the ground per game. I am a bit worried about the hook– it might be worth buying a point to get it to 14.
Pick: Air Force -14.5
Now let's move onto Saturday…
Western Kentucky @ Indiana (-6 O/U 61.5)
Indiana started the year off with a nail biting win against Illinois. Since then, I think they have been slightly overrated. We all remember the air raid offense WKU put on display last year with Zappe, but it looks like they haven’t strayed away from that same approach. This WKU already is averaging 43.5 points per game to start the year. They want to push the ball down the field fast and put up points. Indiana was not a good program at the end of last year and I think that this is the start of that trend for this year.
Pick: WKU +6
#1 Georgia @ South Carolina (+25 O/U 54.5)
I don’t think that there is much to be said about Georgia… They are primed for another CFB title run after replacing their NFL talent with more NFL talent. The defense is elite and Bennett along with the offense looks like they haven’t missed a beat. South Carolina got a lot of people talking with the addition of Spencer Rattler from OU, but they are simply going to be outmatched and overwhelmed by Georgia’s defense. I like Georgia to steamroll the Gamecocks in their SEC debut. My pick is going to be Georgia -14.5 1H. I think they cover this easily, possibly double it, but I am worried about them pulling the starters out towards the end.
Pick: Georgia -14.5 1H
BYU is on a mission this year to be considered for the CFB Playoff. I don’t think they are there quite yet, but moving to the Big 12 and taking down Baylor is a great way to start. Even with their top two WRs still possibly out for this game, I like them against the Ducks. Oregon started the year getting humiliated by Georgia. You love to hear Bo Nix is your starting QB until he steps on the field. I think the BYU defense is too good; only giving up a total of 284 yards a game this year. They are also already 2-0 ATS and I think Oregon still needs more time to figure things out under their new head coach.
Pick: BYU +3.5
Kansas @ Houston (-9 O/U 58)
Kansas has been an absolute powerhouse to start the year. They lead the nation in scoring with a colossal 55.5 points per game and putting up 460 yards per game of offense. They went into Morgantown last week and defeated the Mountaineers in an OT shocker. On the other side Holgersons House team is 1-1 and probably tired. Both games to start the year have gone into OT. The defense for Houston is still bad; letting up 454 yards a game and that offense is the same high-flying one as we saw last year. I like the Over for this game. Even if Kansas regresses slightly, Houston should be there to pick up the slack because both these defenses are not good.
Pick: Over 58
Is the U back!? I guess this week we will find out… Miami has started the year 2-0 and put up an impressive 50 points a game. Tyler Van Dyke is looking sharp and a potential Heisman candidate with this new Mario Cristobal offense. On the other side, Texas A&M is getting embarrassed online after losing to App St. at home. Jimbo Fisher’s regime at A&M has been mostly uneventful and I think it continues and they lose to Miami. They have all the talent in the world thanks to NIL, but I think Jimbo is holding them back.
Pick: Miami +5.5
