College Football Games of the Week: Picks & Pregame Analysis

Welcome back to the Upside Play’s college football games of the week. Here we’ll provide analysis for our games to watch for including 3 of our writers picks for each game. Lock and load we have some top 25 matchups, conference showdowns, and air raid certified ball games coming up in this segment.

#7 Auburn 1-0 @ #4 Georgia 1-0 (4:30 PM)

Current Lines: Georgia -7.5 / O/U 44.5

The first top 10 battle of the 2020 season is here! Auburn is gearing up for their second top 25 opponent of the year as the Tigers are heading to Sanford Stadium to take on the 4th ranked Bulldogs. Heisman hopeful dual threat QB Bo Nix had a solid week 1 as he threw for 233 Yards and 3 TD’s against a tough Kentucky defense. Georgia still doesn’t have a clear QB1 and it’s not due to a lack of talent, Stetson Bennent is currently the favorite to get the start but don’t be surprised if we see D’Wan Mathis thrown into the mix. Georgia is coming off a 37-10 stomping of Arkansas, with both defenses looking great in week one the O/U of 44.5 isn’t shocking here.

Ryan’s Pick: Auburn +7.5

Vinces Pick: Auburn +7.5

Patrick’s Pick: Auburn +7.5

Texas Tech 1-1 @ Kansas St 1-1 (12:30 PM)

Current Lines: K-State -2.5 / O/U 64

Who had Kansas State over Oklahoma last week? What about Texas Tech almost knocking off the top 10 ranked Longhorns? The Big 12 is always full of surprises, 80+ point games are almost the norm at this point and although neither of these teams are ranked currently we thought this was a must have game on the list this week. Texas Tech had a Falcons moment last week as they were up 56-41 with a 3:31 on the clock in the fourth before they lost a heartbreaker. Alan Bowman has a startling 104 passing attempts through two games this year averaging 52 per game so far. Kansas State has scored over 30 in both games this season, including 38 in last week's upset over Oklahoma.

Ryan’s Pick: Over 64

Vince’s Pick: Texas Tech +2.5

Patrick’s Pick: Texas Tech +2.5

#13 Texas A&M 1-0 @ #2 Alabama 1-0 (12:30 PM)

Current Lines: Bama -17.5 / O/U 52.5

Although A&M got a W in week 1 they scared their entire fanbase as they headed into the game as 30 point favorites and snuck away with a 17-12 victory against typical bottom feeder Vanderbilt. The running game led by Isiah Spiller carried the offense as senior QB Kellen Mond couldn’t get it going, fumbling 3 times against the Commodores. Alabama on the other hand looked pretty lights out against Missouri, earning a 38-19 week one victory. The offense looked extremely well balanced as star RB Najee Harris scampered for 98 yards and 3 TD’s and junior QB Mac Jones threw for 249 yards and two TD’s.

Ryan’s Pick: Over 52.5

Vince’s Pick: Bama -17.5

Patrick’s Pick: Over 52.5

#25 Memphis (1-0) @ SMU (3-0) (12:30 PM)

Current Lines: Memphis -1 / O/U 74.5

Through 3 games this year SMU is averaging an insane 48.7 points per game, to make an understatement their offense is rolling. Senior QB Shane Buechele has completed 68.1% of his passes and is averaging right around 9 yards per pass for the Mustangs in 2020. Memphis is coming into the week ranked 25th after a 37-24 victory against Arkansas State in week 1. Senior TE Sean Dykes had a huge game in week 1 as he hauled in 10 receptions for 137 yards and two scores to lead the Tigers receiving corp. The strength of schedule hasn’t been great for either team so far, they both love to air it out, this is going to be an interesting American Athletic Conference matchup.

Ryan’s Pick: Memphis -1

Vince’s Pick: SMU +1

Patrick’s Pick: Memphis -1

#18 Oklahoma (1-1) @ Iowa St. (1-1) (4:30 PM)

Current Lines: Oklahoma -7.0 / O/U 63.5

Oklahoma went down last week 38-35 against Kansas State in easily the biggest upset of the young college football season. Oklahoma was 28 point favorites going into their second game and was up 35-14 in the 3rd quarter before being outscored 24-0 in the last 20 minutes of the game. Freshman QB Spencer Rattler struggled with turnovers as he threw three picks, he did pick up 387 yards through the air including 4 TD’s in the loss. Iowa St. is a true question mark team, they got beat up against the Ragin’ Cajun’s in week 1 beginning the year with a 31-14 upset loss. They bounced back last week against TCU as they put up 37 points led by Sophomore RB Breece Hall who had 3 scores and 155 yards on the ground.

Ryan’s Pick: Oklahoma -7.0

Vince’s Pick: Oklahoma -7.0

Patrick’s Pick: Oklahoma -7.0
